Rant alert, need to vent and advice on how to complain!!!

DD is coeliac, she is very sensitive and is gluten AND wheat free. The rule is supposed to be if it does not say GF on it she does not have it.

brownies KNOW ie have it in writing from me in no uncertain terms what this means, what she can and cannot do or eat, & to avoid party games with flour etc etc. They are usually good at bringing her a substitute if they are having cakes or Christmas choccies etc.

Last week they were making firework biscuit things on rich tea biscuits. No problem, she took her own biccies. They had also run by me a list of the decorations they would be using and i had been through them saying which she could and could not have. Told DD so she knew too. They also mentioned sticking on with icing - I assumed plain homemade icing sugar and water.

DD was very ill day after eating the creation. Had to have 2 days off school and was unable to eat properly and still obv under par now. Thought at first it was a bug but she was just massively sick once then that it. Noone else in family been ill.

Turns out they had used shop bought butter icing which is not WF/GF

am so angry!!!!!!

How do I address this with them,WWYD??

squeakypop, they have tried roping me in as unit helper already, but i already run Rainbows on another night for which dh has to come home early to mind my other 2 kids, and with piano lessons and afterschool clubs, no way can we fit in Brownies too!!also the night clashes with PTA meeting night and its already a mad rush to get her home and me back out again.

frasersmummy - took Rainbows on 3 years ago and see no escape route ever as round here units are closing every 5 minutes through lack of volunteers! well done you for 17 years!!

all - I find it's a bit hit and miss with schools and groups etc. She is the only coeliac her headteacher has known in 17 years of headship!she is the only special diet child at brownies (32 of them) and was all through Rainbows too. I have found, sometimes, once people have the obvious signs of relief on their faces that they are not dealing with a child who is anaphalactic (sp?), they tend to think it is less important about being careful. The number of people who think she can get away with a little, sometimes, is unreal. They think I am exaggerating (other coelaics too) when they say one accident can easily make you feel ill for 2 weeks!

Ah well, will have a word with brown owl to explain whats happened, and hope I don't upset them!
