RAST testing and a couple of other questions

Following a severe but not anaphylatic reaction to peanut, DD was RAST tested a while ago for peanut, other nuts, milk, kiwi and soya. In the past, she has possibly shown some reaction to all of the above.

Does anyone know how long it'll take to get some results from the RAST testing?

The consultant told me to carry Piriton and said that we didn't need Epipens but to call an ambulance if breathing difficulties were experienced. I was also advised NOT to avoid "may contains nut traces" products as we'd never avoided them before. Will the RAST testing score be used to second the above advice?

Sorry for all the questions - it's a whole new world..

Thanks!

My DH was tested last year and I think it was 2-3 weeks until he got any word back. If they test for all mentioned foods they'll give a percentage of tolerance, I'm afraid I can't remember all the ins and outs but they'll give you all that info at the time and they'll let you know what foods to completely avoid.
I'd say you'll be best to just carefully monitor everything that passes her lips in the meantime, the dairy one is your biggest problem for avoidance so I hope for yours and hers sakes that she doesn't have an intollerance for that.

RAST measures how likely they are to react but isn't an indication of whether the reactions will be severe. Advice on "may contain" products varies - the Anaphylaxis Campaign still advise avoiding them.

Personally I'd want an epipen with any reaction to nut. My child has had several minor reactions and a couple of bad ones so I may just be biased. However the deaths that occur are almost always in those who didn't have epipens because they'd been told their reactions were "mild".
