I would like to use this for my ds as he is intolerant of cows milk, I am on gluten free and dairy free diet and symptoms of asd improved dramatically when i cut these out of mine and ds diet.

I am bf as he refuses solids mostly, he's 9 mths. But he is not gaining weight and I am seriously underweight.

Doc has referred me to allergy clinic finally but don't have appt till January. He won't prescribe neocate without specialist, tells me to use formula or soya which i don't want to do.

I feel ds has leaky gut syndrome and so i want to remove all possible allergens.

Did you need a proven allergy test to get some neocate? Is it gluten free?
Did your babies thrive on it? What age did they start? Did you breast feed aswell?

i tried the neocate , he didn't seem to mind the taste but couldn't get the hang of the bottle plus i'd just given him his dinner. will try some in some porridge tonight.

those docs are useless. and those HVs - don't get me started

oooh thats brill if you can just get him straight on it!!!! go for it then dont bother with the 'weaning' techniques. really pleased for you. If hes not keen on a bottle then dont bother, a cup is just as good. good luck for tomorrow!

I managed to get half a cup (with milkshake) and one spoon of neocate - normally he'd down the lot if it was just ricemilk, but hey, half is a good start i think!

i'm not sure. maybe cooking it in mash potato, or banana rice pudding. can't see him being fooled though, he doesn't hardly eat anything as it is.

you having any luck?

very little actually, but we persevere. It took quite a while to get him on formula (hmm no wonder with the intolerance!) from breastmilk, but im hopeful!

Duocal seems to go down just fine tho, although its not a food substitute its just calories, but we're pleased about that! he has put on a pound in weight in a month!!! hes NEVER managed that before!

The food idea sounds a very good one. stick it in anything thats wet i suppose. Have you tried sweetening it with juice/squash or (dare i say it) sugar?

Just to let you know that you can get Neocate in banana-vanilla flavour. dd refused to go near the unflavoured version, but loved the banana stuff.

was just wondering how it was going?

Chatting to a chemisty person the other day (not my local chemist) they said that they could order it in, and have it within 24 hrs but havent heard of the flavoured one... strange. Going to ring a big BOOTS branch tomorrow and see if they have some.

HI All. My 17month old has been on neocate banana and vanilla since he was about 6months old. He wasn't a problem to switch over to it, maybe coz he had pepti powder before. He has been fine, no side effects, he drinks it no problem! The pepti was worse as it caused him to have severe constipation, they think caused by severe dairy allergy. He was a 'failure to thrive' baby on breastmilk now thinking that he was intolerant to that.

Until he went onto the neocate he would,on a regular basis, just scream in pain for no apparent reason. He doesn't do that now! He is now a happy chirpy bubbly little boy!

There are lots of food intolerances in the family inc dairy. Although still on meds to make him poo he is doing much better on the neocate.

Hi everyone,
My 22 mo old son recently had an endoscopy and was diagnosed with EE. He is about 22 pounds. We switched him to rice milk and eliminated egg and soy but he is still not gaining any weight. He has had failure to thrive since about 6 months old. We are pulling our hair out!! Anyone else in our boat? Shouyld we just put him on neocate? Our nutritionist wants to keep eliminating foods and doing endoscopies every few months. This is painful for our son and we don't want to put him through this if we have an alternative. Is neocate a food replacement or supplement? Any help would be appreciated!!

Thanks!!

The banana and vanilla flavour is neocate advance which is for babies over 1 year.

Lilmandad it sounds like Neocate would be good for your DS as it can be used as a food replacement and supplement so would mabe help him to gain some weight.
