has anyone used nizoral on a baby so young and could reassure me please.as ideally should try it.

it just seems that it is bothering him as much as the excema on his face etc.

thank you for your help. x

Have you tried T-Gel medicated shampoo? That's quite strong but I think OK for babies.

I would listen to the pharmascist if I were you. nizorol is strong. pharmascists tend to know more about the drugs they are dishing out than the doctors do!!

www.motherearth.co.uk/index.php?act=viewProd&productId=63

I made my own concoction but this is similar.

but what is best I think commercially available is the following range;

www.barefoot-botanicals.com/shop/sos-dry_scalp_shampoo.asp

www.barefoot-botanicals.com/shop/sos-skin-rescue.asp

I use this all the time on me and my son and it has been tested for safe use on babies. if you want more info, e mail the company, they are more than willing to be informative and helpful

ah, had me worried for a minute there!! the sos range is excellent. I treated a 3 month old with eczema all over after the GP said there was nothing he could give at that age. within 3 months it had been reduced to hardly anything. My mum is a diabetic and she has foot inspections every year because of it. her foot doctor/inspector asked for all the info on the SOS foot rescue balm as my mums feet were so good and now reccommends it to all her diabetics!!

glad I have never used that nizarol myself, I was offered it by my GP, it sounds nasty!! although maybe good for the persistant wallpaper that refuses to come off the walls!!

zeered: I am prone to fungal scalp infections and have used Nizoral* with great success for that for many years. It calms itching and soreness almost immediately. That said, I would be very hesitant to use it even on a young child let alone such a tiny baby. As people have said, its active ingredient is strong. Plus, for it to work properly you need to leave it on for three to five minutes, during which time there can be a tingling/slight burning sensation. In your position, I think I would probably have another chat with your pharmacist about what they would recommend and then approach the doctor again.

Best of luck. Poor little mite with both cradle cap and exzema.

*Note: I think you may find that Nizoral and Nizoral Dandruff Shampoo are not quite the same product - or at least they weren't the last time I looked!

elvira, not a lot I can do without consultation, but saying that I have reccommended to BF'ing mums before to make sure there is plenty of omega 3 in your diet, take good quality supplements if need be and make sure you have plenty of B vits too. eczema can be made worse by a lack of B vits and BF'ing will certainly be depleting yours and therefore the babies. only other thing is the SOS cream mentioned above, its great stuff, really is, I won't be without a tube in my house. I would also look at YOUR diet. have you any food intolerances? if you of babies father have a history of food probs, there is a chance that baby may have them too. so even if its a prob your DH has, it won't affect you but could be affecting your baby. EG, my ex had to not eat mushrooms and shellfish while she BF'd even though she had no problem with them, just in case as mushroom and shellfish could kill me and we would not take the risk with my son.
you could supp with flaxseed oil if you don't like or want fish oil and you supping with zinc may also help.

dd2 has used it over the past few years. She's 10 now. It helps her scalp.

9 wks does seem very young. Why not try what pharmacist recoemmends first?
