my DS is nearly five months. from an early age he would scratch his head when he was going off to sleep, and it was never a problem. however recently he has been making his head bleed! he did have cradle cap which we managed to clear with olive oil and he managed to scratch the last bit of it off!!! ouch! he had a really bad cold last week and his head was scarlet and very flaky. he has appoint with gp next week, but was just wondering if you have any tip on how to soothe his head in the meantime. cheers

best thing you can do is put socks on his hands to stop scratching to allow head to heel keep it clean and creamed with zinc and caster oil i think i used but socks were better than scratch mittens

My DD scratched at night and I put long socks, up to her elbows on so she wouldn't take them off, the mittens just fell off! she has stopped doing it now!

when dd was a young baby we had to rush her to a&e in the night once as her poor head was covered in blood (from scratching) even though it turned out the scratches were only light surface ones. my mum had a great idea, we bought mits (the non scratch ones), you can buy them from eczema cotton based child clothing although i cannot remember the company name, you may find it online, anyway, we would sew ribbon onto the top of the mits as they came off otherwise, they worked a treat, we did this for a few years, it certainly helped as trimming nails back didn't help, she still scratched herself, very upsetting but it does get better

Mine all tried to scratch their eyes out. One nearly succeeded. Long socks worked.

would a head mask from here be helpful? My sisters dd has eczema and scratches a lot and pyjamas from here helped loads. would at least reduce how much scratching damage was done maybe. think you have to get from the doctor though, but you could email and ask.

My dd aged 6 months also does this. Mothercare do babygros up to 6 months with integral scratch mitts and asda do baby pj s and individual babygros with them after 6 months. Pjs are only a fiver.

For dd2 who was much much worse we ordered stuff online off snuggle paws

Sounds as though you need a moisturiser from GP but in the mean time could put something very basic but thick on (ie unlikely to aggravate it) which might help the itching or at least mean their little nails slide over and do less damage. Vaseline maybe, or ask in chemist?

How can a baby's recurrent body rashes be arrested? (N/B.... A course of antibiotics has been followed, as well as antibiotics cream. Yet it returns as soon as treatment stops).

I got a cradle cap massage brush off of eBay it's amazing for dry skin and soothing scalp .. and my baby has very very dry skin on scalp
