Introducing peanuts to a dairy allergic child (5yo)

DS1 is very allergic to dairy and hasn't had peanuts yet (although he may have had products with "traces"). Blood test is negative but I don't think that means much.

The allergy specialist says he can now try nuts and he's fine with pine nuts, chestnuts and walnuts, but gets hives with almonds.

I'm terrified of trying peanuts and just wondered how others had gone about it and with what results...

Thanks

Weta - how stressful for you all. Very hard. I am really not sure how I would go about it but hopefully someone more qualified will come along, I know there are some real allergy specialists on here who have been fab with me and my posts.

DD3 is 18 months and has a sister who is allergic to nuts and I have been told to hold off until she is 3. I am then going to speak to my allergist as I want to give the nuts in hospital conditions the first time, only safe route I think.

Would your diary allergist allow you to do a nut challenge in hospital? Where are you based?

We're in France so it's probably different here

DH went to the last appointment with our private allergist and came away with conflicting messages (as in, do it in hospital conditions, and just give it a try)! We have an appointment with our new hospital allergist in 2 weeks so I think I'll wait and ask him if we can do it in hospital.

I would wait for sure, 2 weeks is not that long. I wouldn't try out of hospital conditions, tooooo stressy by half!

I have BIL living in france under medical care at the mo and it seems far superior to what he would get here!

Good luck - make sure you post and let us know how it goes, us alergy-mums like a bit of good news!
