Hi all. I am actually posting for my friend who is not online. Though my daughter is a coeliac too i have given all my information to my daughters school and havent had it back. My friends daughter has had a tough time at her school and has been allowed to play with normal palydough and made a chuffing pasta knecklace today!! I am really shocked as they had given my friend the impression that they had previous experience of this disease. I tried to log into the coeliac website ( i am a member) to get their leaflet re your chikd starting school but couldnt get in. I feel that there is a bit of urgency as the child could get seriously ill. Has anyone got access to this leaflet so i dont have to write down some my unclear writing about this disease which is bloody confusing anyway.

Sorry to ramble on, really hope someone can help either with the leaflet or some sensible legible thoughts that i can copy and give to my mate in the morning. Thanks

My husband is a coeliac and we suspected that dd1 was as well (but turned out she wasn't)

Can't help with the leaflet but perhaps you or your friend could type out a few lines that are quite "clear" just so she can give the school something while you try and get hold of a "proper" leaflet.

Something like

"we would like to clarify that x has coeliac disease. It is very important that she does not have close contact with anything containing gluten, specifically wheat, barley, oats or rye. She should not eat these products, neither should she be in close contact with them.

For example the following activities are inappropriate:

artwork using pasta.
playdough unless you can guarantee it is gluten free. x will not deliberately eat it but it will remain under her fingernails etc.
Any cookery involving the above products.

We are in the process of getting further information from Coeliac UK and will pass this on to you in the near future."

sorry don't have access to the leaflet but agree with onepieceoflollipop - except gluten free pasta would be Ok and the mum could offer to supply that if she can afford it/ get it prescribed. She might want to mention cereal boxes if the child is very sensitive as those are often used in making sessions. Again best to offer to supply some. I'm sure there have been recipes posted for gluten free playdough, if you have a problem I can find one.

Juvela do a great booklet (free) aimed at primary school kids, I sent one to school and brownies - its called "me and my tummy"

other activities to avoid include licking and sticking gummed paper shapes and envelopes, visits to working mills, bakeries etc (breweries too, but that's not likely!)and obviously baking with wheatflour

GF playdough recipe is on coeliac UK website

I am sure if you ring coeliac uk they will send spares of the relevant pages for your friends school to have
