Anyone know of a washing detergent for a baby's sensitive skin?

Ds, 8 months old, has just been diagnosed with infantile eczema. He has been having itching/scratching sessions most of every day for the past four weeks. He now has a rash all over his body - face, neck, scalp, arms and legs. The rash on his face looks different to the rash on his body. It's got to the point where he can't sleep properly at night and wakes up scratching and crying. GP said if the hydrocortisone cream and emollient cream that he has prescribed don't work, to go back next week for a prescription for antihistamine. I don't think I or ds can wait that long!

I had eczema as a child and it looked so different to what ds has. I haven't changed anything recently to what he has had before but am now thinking about trying to change the washing detergent that we use. Currently use EcoBalls but does anyone know of a good washing detergent liquid type thing that's good for a baby with supposed eczema??

Desperate for ds to feel better............

Thanks

we use surcare
do you use softner?
it might be worth doing an extra rinse cycle if your machine has that option

Thanks TB - I've not heard of Surcare -where can I get that from. We don't use a softener; do you know of a good one? Our machine doesn't have the option for extra rinse but can always re-rinse at end of cycle

Thanks!

Ecover do washing powder and softner too- I used that for DH and DS who both have real sensitivity to washing powder (DS also has infantile exzema). You can get it in most supermarkets. Alternatively I have used Tesco's and the Co-ops own brand 'green' laundry liquid and they have both been fine too but don't smell as nice.

Also- the Doc gave us stuff called Balneum Plus for the bath that really seemed to help with the exzema on DS's body- I think it calmed down the itching. Worth asking for.

Softner is best avoided apparently although I use the surcare one

They sell it in tesco/waitrose/sains

Clearspring is brilliant - ask in health food shops.
