Just had a positive reaction to peanuts - what happens next?

My DD, aged 9, has just had a positive skin prick test to peanuts, though no other nuts (phew). There was quite a big lump on her arm which has now gone down.
I was told I would be given another appointment to receive a treatment plan but am just wondering what will happen now.
Will she need an epi pen? Will I have to ban peanuts from the house?
Am a bit wobbly to be honest.

Hi BBF (waves back), DD off on sleepover. More concerned right now about son's braces and whether he's got his new bands on right! You do get used to dealing with nut allergies. It helps when their friends are old enough (and kind enough) to check food labels . Didn't know about the ambulance service, I should check if they do it here. (ends hijack)

The Anaphylaxis dvd about epipens is worth watching if you are new to them. You can also get trainer pens, which are invaluable. It is not as good as an orange (the real thing kicks back more) but you can try it before you have an out of date pen.

The average time to death in an anaphylactic reaction to food is 30 mintes, less for sting allergies. Exercise makes reactions worse, possibly because of dehydration. Asthmatics possibly have less time. It's not long when you first have to realise its a reaction.

At primary school we had one pen in the office and one in the classroom - but I had to fight not to have my child carry them around. Our child was officially responsible for taking a pen with them off site from about 8 but actually the teacher usually checked.

At secondary school one is in the school first aiders office (school request), one in school bag and one in their blazer pocket (I hope). One lives in the bag they normally take out with them in the evenings and a second is moved into it so there are 2 with them always (in theory). On holiday we try to take 4.

Am feeling much better about this today - especially after all your lovely posts .
Am going to have to find a balance between getting DD to accept this is serious without terrifyng her.

litchick - has she ever been able to eat nuts without a reaction?
