What does 'high spore count' mean? As in on TV after the weather?

Sounds like a dumb question- I know what a high pollen count means, but spores of what? Fungus?

I ask because both my DSs wake up with runny noses and sneezing. They have had this off and on over the summer but it's definitely worse right now. We do live in a dampish (rental!) house- a factor?

Incidentally, the GP won't test, her reasoning being that 'if it's environmental you can't shield them from it so there's no point in testing'...??! WELL, if it were POLLEN I'd do the closed windows, sunglasses, vaseline around the nose thing; if it were dust mites I'd get a HEPA filter vacuum cleaner and seal the mattresses and duvets etc.

I suppose I'll have to go private to get them tested.

Finally, can you get 'Benadryl Allergy' liquid on prescription in the UK? I'm going through litres of it!

I would assume fungal spores too - have you tried googling the phrase "high spore count"?

mold allergies.

autumn /winter peak, ( dropping leaves ,rotting and all that!)

Fungi are REALLY thriving on the current damp weather,................so if mushrooms are busy , so are other molds.
