I have been to several chemists all of which tell me the same thing "theres a manufacturing problem at the moment", i'm going to have to get my son something else as he's been waiting for over a week for it and his skin is getting bad again.

Yes I have had the same problem with it and am going back to the docs to get something else. Fortunately DS skin is not too bad at the moment

suwoo · 07/07/2008 21:30

I have one nasty patch of excema that has been infected and treated with fucibet and is still there- diprobase seems to exacerbate it, do you think it could? If so you can have mine, have shit loads of the stuff.

pinkyp · 07/07/2008 21:49

i use fucibet on my sons skin (which i think is brillaint) untill its completely gone (or a week whichever is sooner) and then use the diprobase on it and everywhere else, it usually keeps it at bay for a little while - it does still come back tho eventually. Oilatum makes his skins much worse, thats what we had to begin with and it wasnt very good at all.

Try Cetraben ( available on prescription) very similar to Diprobase

littlepinkpixie · 07/07/2008 21:51

Yes, we cant get it either. We went back to the GP and got a doublebase prescription instead. I think that the doublebase is better, so will probably stick with that now.

Mum2BabyRoo · 07/07/2008 21:53

There has been a manufacturing problem for ages now. None of the chemists where I live have had it in stock for over a month now.

mollysawally · 07/07/2008 21:54

Agree with Laylaand.
Diprobase is a nightmare to get from the chemists, tried for ages to get and kept getting told the same thing as you, manafacturing problems.

Cetraben is actually better than diprobase IMO, my doctor recommened it to me as its what he uses.

I had a really bad flare up and certaben really helped calm it down whereas aqueaoua and diprobase were useless.

Olihan · 07/07/2008 21:58

We were given doublebase and diprobase for ds2's eczema and find the doublebase much better, for some reason the diprobase makes it worse.

If you want the part tub of Diprobase you're more than welcome to it, to tide you over.

BasementBear · 07/07/2008 21:59

Agree that Cetraben is really good, but like Littlepinkpixie I prefer doublebase.

pinkyp · 07/07/2008 22:01

thank u, think i will try going to drs tomorrow and see what he says, the diprobase never clears it up 100% but it does stop it getting bad as quick, so mabe if he gives me something else it might be better? I was just checking it wasnt just my area that there was a problem. Wonder what it is?

My chemist told me that diprobase were changing the packaging, so thats why stocks have ran out.
Were expecting some in at end of June, though it never came.
DS2 skin got so bad waiting, he had to have hydrocortisone ointment, which cleared eczema straight up, but can only use it for a week, so its coming back now.
Getting by with aquius (sp) cream.

kennythekangaroo · 07/07/2008 22:12

I've been waiting about 3 weeks for diprobase and it finally arrived at the chemist today. It's got a slightly new shape to the top so that's probably the new packaging. Hopefully stocks will arrive elsewhere soon.

Sufi · 07/07/2008 22:15

thanks for this thread - I've been having problems as well but the chemist just said 'it'll be in soon' - might go to the GP to get an alternative.

Kelix · 07/07/2008 22:15

Glad I got a massive bottle for DD last time. Was unaware of any problems with stock, hope they have it soon cos I'm almost out (1/4 bottle left). Doublebase seems good, might be good alternative although I'm no doctor

Tiggiwinkle · 07/07/2008 22:19

None here either-my chemist substituted Doublebase instead.

MetalMummy · 08/07/2008 12:48

I've put in a repeat prescription for diprobase today so I'll have to wait and see what we get. Luckily I have got nearly a full tub left which should last a week or so. I hope they don't substitute aqueous cream that makes DS1s eczema really bad.

tegan · 08/07/2008 12:56

I collected dd's diprobse last wednesday from the chemist and nothing was said. When i go to town tomorrow i will ask if there is problem getting it.

pinkyp · 08/07/2008 21:20

hiya i went today and the dr gave me another perscription for emoliant ointment, so i took this along with the old perscription for diprobase (as it had some diprobath on that i needed) and the chemist gave me the emoliant ointment (which is like lard!!) and subsituted the diprobase for certraben! So i've ended up with these 2 now, will see how i get on. Anyone used this? What u think? I used the emoilant ointment in the bath as a soap as its too thick to use as a cream in my opinion.
