Anyone recommend a shampoo for cradle cap/very dry scalp in toddler with eczema?

DD is 2 and suffers from eczema. As well as this she has always had very bad cradle cap. I have tried removing it with olive oil, almond oil and coconut oil but nothing keeps it at bay. I tried used Dentinox shampoo but it makes her scalp extremely dry. At this stage I thing what she needs is a shampoo that really moisturises the scalp but doesn't irritate her sensitive skin. Does any one have experience of this or any suggestions?

i was thinking this tonight. my dd is 2.8 and still has patches of cradle cap in her hair. i thought it should have cleared up by now as i used dentinox once a week, but it is not enough.
wondering if it will go away on its own.

I wouldnt use anything too harsh - maybe a gentle baby shampo without any nasties, like the Green Baby one? Or Weleda do nice baby stuff.

DS didn;t have eczema, but what worked was olive oil, shampoo, leave shampoo on for a few mins then rinse thoroughly.

I only wash her hair less than once a week as it is because water is very drying on her skin. It was easier when she was younger and would sit still to have the oil rubbed in and then let me comb it through after but now she won't sit still for a second and it is really becoming a battle.

DS (16mo) has eczema and occasional patches of cradle cap. I just use Oilatum in the bath and rinse his hair with the bathwater, using a sponge to have a quick scrub at any patches of cradle cap. This seems to keep it mostly at bay.

Try Halo's & Horn's shampoo, you can get it from most good supermarkets. It doesn't have any nasty things in it. I have used it for a number of years now on my lo's after trying all kinds of different products.

I use Infaderm conditioning shampoo on my dd's. Even when dd1's excema was bad and any other shampoo had her scratching until she bled she was fine with this.

Use aqueas cream. DD had it till 6 months and I tried all the oils. Dentinox did nothing but dry her little head. Once a day wash with aqueas cream. DD has bad eczema all over so we have the monster pots of diprobase. I also have a baby hair brush and I used to brush her scalp first, she was fascinated by the snow shower . Keep at it and it will work

we use the johnsons lavender shampoo mixed with LOTS of doublebase and that got rid of ds's cradle cap and it keeps the eczema on his scalp under control. We put more doublebase on afterwards when his hair is still wet and as you can see from his pics on my profile, he still has a lovely wee head of curls

(we found ds was allergic to halos and horns but not johnsons lavender strange as we assumed it would be the other way round a he has VERY BAD eczema all over, hence trying the halos one first but i guess they're all different, it's just a bit of trial and error!)

What's doublebass?

foofi · 22/06/2008 03:10

Sorry - doublebase (musician?)!

Wow, I was just going to go looking for info on cradle cap / dandruff in toddlers and here it is in active conversations!

Foofi - I think doublebase is a prescription(?) lotion for severely dry skin / eczema. I'm not sure if you can get it without prescription but I know I got it for dd when she was very wee and it was by prescription but the GP may have done that so I didn't need to pay for it (he had pity on the struggling student mum )

My one year old had terrible eczema which i think was linked to his teething which makes sense as mine is worse when stressed !!! The only thing that sorted him out was seeing a specialist for some creams and 50/50 cream, he is a lot better now so we only use the 50/50 as a mosturiser but i am still very cautious and use a product range called Pure Baby (purebaby.com - i think) its american but has a uk distributor.
