Td/IPV and dairy allergies

Hi everyone, my son is due his MenACWY and Td/IPV soon at secondary. I was looking into it and it says vaccines with DTaP contain bovine casein in the manufacturing medium.

Has anyone with a dairy allergy child had this with any issue or any information to share? Many thanks

Dairy allergy isn’t a contraindication for either of those vaccines, if that is any help.

If he’s had all his other vaccines with no issues then he’ll be ok with the Td/IPV as it’s a booster, and doesn’t have the pertussis component so isn’t a DTaP vaccine.

My daughter has a dairy allergy and we discussed this with our allergy specialist before her school vaccinations. We were advised that severe reactions related to milk proteins in these vaccines are extremely rare, and she received her vaccines without any issues. It may be worth speaking with your son's GP, allergy team, or the vaccination provider beforehand for reassurance and to discuss his specific allergy history.

We were told with Td/IPV that if there is a known severe milk allergy the doctor may choose to have the vaccination under close supervision. This means waiting in the waiting room for 30 minutes instead of the normal 15 minutes so staff can intervene quickly if itching, hives or difficulty breathing occur.

We had no issues.

Hi, my child has a dairy allergy as well, and we discussed it with our healthcare provider before vaccination. They explained that vaccine recommendations can depend on the severity of the allergy and the specific vaccine being used. It’s best to speak with your GP, allergy specialist, or the vaccination team so they can review your son's medical history and provide guidance specific to his situation.
