Neocate prep advice

My LO has been on Neocate LCP for 7 weeks and I might have been prepping it wrong. We have been using a prep machine, putting hot shot in, adding formula and then the rest of the water. A video I watched the other day says the formula needs to be mixed with warm water not hot. I have tried the search for what temperature it needs to be but I cant see anything. Does anyone know how it is meant to be prepped? If the forumla has bacteria surely mixing not at 70c means the bacteria is present.

No hot shot for neocate. Water needs to be cooled for at least 30 mins before mixing with the powder.

Nutricia who make neocate say the water should be 50 degrees (hot shots on machines should be 70 degrees but check your actual machine with a thermometer because they’re often cooler)

However they also say that while some nutrients are reduced when using the hot shot method they didn’t go below the amount stated on the label.

We use water over 70 degrees for standard formula as it reduces the risk of cronobacter sakazakiii and salmonella in formula powder.

Basically with neocate you’re weighing up the two risks- a slight reduction in nutrient value with hot water vs the risk of bacterial contamination which is also fairly low and its impact is lower still if your baby is older.

Personally I’d prepare neocate using standard formula prep methods as it seems that nutrients only slightly reduced and unlikely to cause harm while if you were unlucky enough to contract meningitis or salmonella from bacterial contamination that would be worse! This is different to some specialist formulas which do need to be made up in cooler water.

If you do want to go with Nutricia’s advice and use cooler water making each bottle fresh and drinking straight away reduces the risk of bacterial growth and infection.
This is their advice on formula prep machines,
