Waiting for allergy testing after anaphylaxis

My 2 year old had an anaphylaxis reaction to lunch at nursery the other day, his mouth and tongue all swelled up and was struggling to breathe :(

he has previously had skin reactions (rashes on face and hand) to egg, raw tomatoes and lentils so we avoid those already. He’s never had a breathing reaction like this and I thought if he was going to he would have by now.

the lunch he had contained no major allergens but it did contain smoked paprika, peppers, tinned tomatoes - is anyone or anyone’s little ones allergic to any of these?

we have allergy testing in 6-8 weeks as they pushed it through as we have no idea exactly what it is and because of what happened but I feel like this wait will be forever! He’s still getting a bad rash around his face today, 2 days after the incident and seems much more sleepy than usual. We have been given EPI pens for an emergency (hope never have to use them!) and a stronger antihistamine prescription to take this week and then as and when but I’m not sure if it’s helping with his itchiness and rashes.

any advice from those with toddler allergies especially any random ingredients would be fab. I am so confused right now! X

sorry to hear this! you say he previously reacted to tomatoes and that this lunch had tomatoes in it, so it seems obvious that is the culprit, no?

He’s been fine to chopped tomatoes/tomato sauces etc before so it is very random but you may be right! His appointment is the 12th Dec so fingers crossed we get the results back asap! X

How stressful - I would probably lean more towards the tomatoes as I know that initial reactions can be a “warning sign” before developing into anaphylaxis.

Hopefully you’re able to get to the bottom of it quickly. Have they said if you’re allowed to use anything topical for the rashes at the mo?

And then in the meantime I would look at nightshades more broadly because they seem to be in bloody everything. Could be worth avoiding for now until testing is done.
