2 year old / peanut butter?

Hi everyone,

Looking for a bit of advice and reassurance! We haven’t given peanut butter yet to our 2-year-old (just never got round to it), and we’ve just started weaning our 6-month-old. I was thinking of introducing it to both of them around the same time soon, but I’m feeling a bit nervous.

Does it make a difference that our eldest is that bit older and hasn’t had it before? I’ve read that early introduction is best for reducing allergy risk, which makes me worry slightly about him.

Any tips on how to go about it safely? Did you give it for the first time at home, at a certain time of day, etc.?

Thanks in advance — feeling a bit anxious about this one.

It's lower risk to introduce earlier, but the risk is not exactly high. Is there any significant family history of allergies/asthma/eczema, as if not the risk is lower. If you're that nervous about it, probably introduce it to one child at a time, so you can keep an eye more easily on that one. Start with a small amount. And never a bad idea to have some antihistamines in your medicine cabinet.

If you're really worried try it in the car park of children's A and E. Otherwise just try in the morning (in case of a delayed reaction). As above, unless bad eczema, hay fever or asthma they don't have a huge risk.

Our toddler does have eczema that does flare up from time to time but has Zero Base and hydrocortisone ointment to use. He also had CMA and was on Neocate formula.
