Pepti Junior

Has anyone who has a DC with a milk allergy tried Pepti Junior. I have been prescribed it for my DS who is 4 months. He has a very bad milk allergy and I have only breast fed him so far but would like to find a milk I can use when weaning him. His reaction to milk is so severe that I find myself really worried to even try it.

Also can anyone tell me if they found going dairy free themselves helped their baby in any way. I have gone dairy free for 4 weeks now but my babies eczema seems the same as ever.

DS had Pepti Junior prescribed, it is especially formulated for children with milk allergy.

DS dairy allergy was not confirmed until long after I had stopped breastfeeeding, but I know a few persons whose baby's conditions improved dramatically once they cut off dairy from their diets.

HOw does he react to milk? is it just the eczema?

Ds1 is allergic to milk. It is not a serious allergy but he has a very immediate reaction (hives all over face), then a bit later throws up.

He was on Pepti junior from age 1 to age 2 (kept on it so long due to being a shrimp). He had no problems with it (reaction-wise) at all.

If you are really worried about the Pepti then treat it as a possible allergen. First rub a drop on his arm -wait 5 minutes if no skin reaction then 1 drop on lips - if no reaction then couple of drops in mouth - if no reaction then 1 tsp full. If this goes OK then on day 2 try a fluid oz and just build up the amounts.

Not that I think you'll have a problem tbh but it might make you more confident about trying it on him (and I know that sense of fear so well)

His reaction is violent vomiting - about and hour after drinking formula, it goes on for hours - and the next day he has chronic upset tummy and it very tired "floppy" - not good really.

Hi,
My DD is the same. It started with what i thought was reflux and screaming by 6 weeks and then moved on to bloody nappies at 8 weeks. Fortunately we got a diagnosis and i went dairy free from then on. DD is like a different child now, it really made a huge difference to her.

When you say dairy free - are you cutting out everything? I have to cut out anything that says it may contain traces of milk or made in a factory which handles milk products.

I gave her some baby rice with neocate a few weeks ago, which i presumed would be safe but within a short while she was projectile vomiting for the rest of the day! I just forgot to check that the rice may contain traces of milk. It sounds like your little one may be the same, so its worth checking absolutely everything or just make it all yourself.

Hope your little one gets better soon.

Dd was prescribed Nutramigen, but wouldn't drink it, so was breastfed until she outgrew her intolerance (still is, but has cows' milk too now). I did find that giving up dairy myself helped her, yes. She was too bad to carry on bfing if I hadn't given it up tbh, so there was little choice involved!
