Post Milk Allergy Cough

Hi there. I'm looking for advice from anyone whose child has recovered from a type 1 cows' milk allergy (anaphylaxis) and can now have dairy.

My DS was diagnosed with a milk allergy at 7 months and went through the dairy challenge just before starting school. Thankfully, he was clear and has had dairy in his diet now for nearly seven years.

However, his weak point health wise is a cough. He has always taken a very long time to clear a cough after any viruses and just this evening he mentioned that he sometimes worries about coughing too much. When the viruses aren't around, he doesn't cough but even the mildest sniffle will bring it back. When he was younger, he'd have a barking cough but now, if it's triggered, it's just a quieter one but could go on for a number of weeks.

I'm going to take him to the doctors for their advice but, to be honest, it took months for them to take me seriously in the first place so I'm not expecting much in the way of enlightenment from them.

I wondered if anyone else had experience of any lingering symptoms even after they had outgrown the original allergy? Should I knock the milk off again? Perhaps it's asthma? Another, more mild allergy?

Any experience of dealing with this challenge and what to do about it is greatly appreciated!

Could he still possibly be sensitive to dairy maybe? Have you tried cutting dairy from his diet for a few weeks and seeing if the cough stops? I'd imagine this would be the first thing you'd be advised to try anyway
