Wheat free diet

When I was 16 I got diagnosed with a wheat allergy. I remember my Mum buying wheat free bread which was awful and so I naturally just carried on eating normal bread. I have always suffered with bad sinuses (hence the allergy testing) which has got worse over the years. I would like to start excluding wheat again but apart from cutting out bread and getting wheat free pasta I'm not sure what else would help. When I've cut out bread before for diet reasons I've noticed that I feel generally better digestive wise but not really with sinuses. Any advise from anyone who has gone wheat free would be good.

A wheat allergy wouldn't typically cause sinus problems. Who diagnosed you?

GP I think (it was 25 years ago so can't remember much about it). It's on my my medical records as wheat allergy. One of the symptoms is congestion as I'm aware.

If you had a true allergy to wheat you'd have been having allergy symptoms (urticaria, angioedema, immediate gut issues, and airways/breathing/circulatory system problems for more serious reactions). The fact you've been eating it all these years with no allergic response suggests this isn't a wheat allergy (which is good!) and that you need to seek the correct medical answer to your sinus problems.

I wondered when the ' you don't have a proper allergy' brigade would turn up. Look im just trying to improve my health. I suffer digestive and sinus problems that affect my life and was just looking for some advise. I have been diagnosed as stated on my medical records. I accept it is very mild and others will have much worse symptoms and affects on their lives. So just forget I asked.

I'm just one person, not a brigade.

If you're having digestive symptoms to wheat, have you been tested for coeliac disease?

Similar symptoms to my DS and DH. Whatever you want to call it, allergy or intolerance, they both get sinus congestion from eating wheat (specifically wheat, other gluten is fine) as well as mild digestive upset. I keep DC wheat free as much as I can easily do (not worried about tiny amounts) but DH hates the gluten free bread so just keeps his intake low.

Bread, pasta, wraps, crackers, biscuits, cakes all should be careful of. And cereal too! That can be tricky if you like a filling cereal in the mornings.

Thank you. This is usual to know that they experience similar symptoms with wheat.
