Egg allergy

Hi,

I’m wondering if anyone has experience with babies and allergies on here until I see the GP next week. My 6 month old DD came up in hives/ rash immediately after trying egg the other day for first time, no other symptoms. I’m now a bit nervous to try other allergens on her and the GP appt isn’t until another week away. I’m exclusively breastfeeding and eat a lot of egg so not sure if I should give that up now until she gets seen to. I spoke to a health visitor yesterday who said I should have tried all of the allergens by now (she just turned 6 months over the weekend though?!). She’s so far tried yoghurt, cows milk in porridge, sesame, fish, and she had a small bit of toast before. Should I pause the rest of the allergen introduction or just go for it? I think I read the longer you leave the introduction, babies can become at risk of developing allergies.

If you have been having eggs in your diet without any symptoms at all you can keep it in.
If there's retrospective been symptoms it might be worth trying to remove it to see if it helps
It's important to keep as much foods in your diet as they can tolerate without symptoms as it gives some exposures to the proteins. My daughter has a lot of allergies including fish. We only identified fish during weaning I tested her with fish in my diet and seemed fine then one week I had a lot of fish and she did react. I spoke to our dietician and she said if she can tolerate me eating it as long as didn't over do keep doing that. I kept fish in my diet 1-2 times a week.

It's almost more important to test the other allergens if there are allergies as not having them in the diet can cause more allergies. Go with small amounts early in the day so there's plenty of support if you need. start with unpure forms where possible - for example some pancakes made with cows milk rather than a yoghurt for example

I don’t know if you got any advice OP, but my daughter’s paediatrician told me to keep eating normally whilst breastfeeding as it helps build up their tolerance to allergens. My DD is allergic to both egg and peanuts and I still eat both.

We have an egg allergy (and peanut) but the advise was get all the allergens in asap, but do it carefully slowly increasing the amounts like this:

also when you have your appointment, ask about the egg ladder. A lot of egg allergy children are fine with baked egg, which makes life much easier!
