Pet and dust recommendations for baby with severe allergies, eczema and asthma

I am an aunt to a baby age 8 months who has severe allergies, eczema and asthma. He has been hospitalised for anaphylactic shock around 1 month ago, and we are awaiting an appointment for more extensive dietary allergen testing. He is on steroids and emollients for severe eczema and also on a brown inhaler for assumed asthma.

We are pretty in control of the diet situation but every time his steroids are stepped down (from daily to every other day) the eczema comes back with a vengeance. We're worried it could be related to pet or dust allergies (we have 1 cat) as he seemed slightly better when staying at with a friend for a few days. I wondered if anyone had any recommendations for controlling exposure to those things? We are considering a vacuum cleaner upgrade and air purifiers but any more specific recommendations would be really helpful.

His parents are ok with me trying to troubleshoot this, I live in the home with him as well so we're all looking into potential options to help him. Really appreciate any suggestions.

You can get a dust mite vacuum cleaner that kills the mites using UV light and heat. Also dust mite covers for mattresses/pillows etc. Damp dusting is also really important.

Rehome the cat. It’s not the cats fault but it’s not the baby’s either. People are too sentimental. Just make sure it goes to a good home and they will contact you if circumstances change.

My sister recently rehomed a cat for a family in similar circs. It has settled in well, gets on with the dog and is the apple of my sisters eye.
