Hives after eating

My 11mo has had hives on their face a few times from eating. It’s only 2-3 hives and as soon as they come up I take the food away and clean everything, they normally go within an hour. I think I’ve narrowed it down to three potential things, but she’s not reacted every time she’s had these 3 things so I’m not sure! I’ve spoken to the gp they said I can’t have antihistamine for a baby under 1. They also said there’s no real ‘plan’ of action, and there wasn’t much they could do for us, we should just test it out at home and either offer the food more or avoid it entirely. This doesn’t seem like the best advice to me and I worry the allergy could get worse? Or am I being a bit pfb and should just accept she has a minor allergy and it’s not a big deal.

This is insane and hugely dangerous advice from the GP. Food allergies have form for worsening with every exposure so you could be quickly looking at a very serious allergy (anaphylaxis.) you need a referral to a pediatric allergist who will do comprehensive skin prick and blood tests. It's the only way to know, and you need to push hard for this, asap. If at all possible, this is a situation where private consultation makes a big difference as the NHS just does not have scope to attend to this efficiently.

The NHS guidance is that you should be referred to an allergy specialist for investigation. Agree with PP, go back and push for a referral and advise about the NICE guidelines - www.nice.org.uk/guidance/cg116/chapter/Recommendations
