Itchy skin reaction - numbing cream?

I have allergies. I've reacted to something and have an itchy, red patch. Just about managing not to scratch it, but arggggggggh. I've taken anti-histamines and applied my topical steroid. All the prescription stuff. Still itchyyyyy!

Can I put something like Lanacaine or Emla on it? Is there something I can do to numb the itching?

Spoons, in the fridge for 10min, then on you, back in the fridge when it gets warm again. IDK why cold makes the itch go, but it does.

I have EMLA cream in my medicine cupboard and use it for this kind of thing. I even keep a tiny tube of it in my handbag. If I get a little burn, I'm itchy, sunburn, sore skin, I even put it on a paper cut with some vaseline on top.

I've got very sensitive skin and it's never caused any irritation or bother. Better a bit of numbing cream than scratching a layer off, in my opinion!
