Hayfever is kicking my arse this spring, my whole face is itching, I can't stop sneezing + my eyes look like I've been punched.
I take loratadine and use a saline nasal spray, which all helped last year but it's worse this year for some reason, please can you lovely people hit me with natural cures I can try?

Petroleum jelly around the nose, nasal irrigation, air purifiers at home, wrap around sunglasses.

Agree with these to compliment your tablets.

Also change your clothes when you cone in, give the dog/cat a wipe over with a damp cloth, wash bedding, curtains, cushions, etc regularly.

Its such a pain. Maybe just move to the seaside?

@mrssquidinkah, I hope I’m not affected by oak tree pollen too, I assumed it was just grass I was allergic to but maybe not as it’s definitely got me this last week 😒😩☹️

Birch is the main culprit in April in the UK.
Wonder whether it was that, that was missing in your part of France?

I don't know?

i arrived back last week and haven't had to take a single tablet since being here. Im outside 6/7 hours a day & in the countryside, surrounded by trees, grass etc.

Here for another 3 weeks

I avoid eating tomatoes during hayfever season, they contain histamine. My hayfever is now a lot more manageable by doing that and taking Fexofenadine.

Lurkingandlearning · 26/05/2025 09:03

I knew a gardener who swore by eating a teaspoon of honey every morning, especially local honey.

MikeRafone · 26/05/2025 09:40

Ok so I have been in France for the last month and the only times (twice) I had to take antihistamine was when the mold score was high

I've been checking on here, as someone pointed out it could be different trees etc in France on this thread

https://www.accuweather.com/en/fr/le-lorey/147603/weather-forecast/147603

the mold level was low and I was fine - as soon as I moved to Bayeux - where the mold level was high - my hay fever started - but all the other pollen counts were low

All I can find to illuminate mold is white vinegar for dusting etc at home and a dehumidifier and spider plants in the house

I don't know where this mold comes from or whether it is more concentrated in built up suburban areas?

Id suggest keeping a check on whether pollen levels are high and which ones are actually affecting you

Acupressure band. My partner swears by one. She isn’t into woo at all but wears it all through the hayfever season and said it’s changed her life. Available on Amazon…

The obvious one is eating honey 🍯 from local bees 🐝 but I have no idea if that works

I have mild hay fever so I often forget I even have it then wonder why my eyes are watering and why I’m sneezing 🤧

@senseofdevelopment Have you had any luck with the supplements you have started taking yet?

I seem to have constantly runny and itchy nose all year round and it is only better laying down at night so no idea what i am allergic to.

Could it be dairy? If I have too much my nose runs, also some types of crap like biscuits or popcorn set me off.

@Dogaredabomb I have wondered as `i read somewhere that dairy could be a problem and have thought about giving it up to see if it helps.

How long do you think it would take with no dairy before I knew if that was the cause, a day or a week or longer? I do have cottage cheese every day and also yogurt most evenings but that is about all the dairy i have.

I did try nettle capsules a year or so ago and thought they helped a bit but it didnt last long.

Dogaredabomb · 26/05/2025 11:06

I don't know but I've found if I keep it minimal like a splash in a couple of coffees that's ok but if I have cheese on toast my nose runs. Some other more mucked about stuff like coloured cheese gives me a banging headache. Butter is fine. Just keep experimenting. I take a tesco hay-fever tablet if I've overdone it.

superstar63 · 26/05/2025 11:47

I need to bite the bullet and stop dairy just to see then as no nasal spray or antihistamine work for me and its really annoying.

minnienono · 26/05/2025 11:53

I’ve heard raw onion exposure can build resistance to hay fever over time though I’m not sure exactly how it’s applied, it’s been done under clinical conditions with success, not just quackery, however a long time since I read the paper
