HELP from deep within the baby eczema rabbit hole

At 8 weeks old my LO was diagnosed with CMPA after having blood in his nappies. He was prescribed Nutramigen 1 and within 48 hours we saw significant improvements to his symptoms. However, after 2 weeks he started to get dry patches on his face and and stomach. They were quite mild and after moisturising regularly and seeing no improvement I went to the GP. They prescribed a steroid cream, Epimax bath emollient and Epaderm ointment. The steroid cream was ineffective and the Epaderm/Epimax combo never seemed to get rid of the eczema. I went back to GP after persevering for 6-7 weeks who asked about his milk. They didn't recommend switching at this time but just said to use the Epimax as a moisturiser. After a week, my LO's skin was very dry and irritated so I went back to ask about a milk change. He was then prescribed Alfamino, a steroid ointment and Cetraben. The steroid ointment did treat his face but not his stomach and as soon as i stopped using it, his face went back to how it was before using it at all. We are now at a point where his entire stomach is covered in a large red, dry patch with smaller patches extending to his back, backs of his legs, wrists and ankles. His face is also very dry and red. I'm not convinced the Cetraben is working as we've been using it for 3 weeks and not seeing a great deal of improvement again. He's actually started to get very upset when I try to moisturise him now despite trying to distract him with his favourite Peppa Pig and its becoming quite a distressing process. I've recently incorporated Bioskin Rescue Cream into his routine but I'm scared that I may be overloading his skin and potentially making it worse.
Basically, I'm looking for some advice from parents that have experienced something similar and what (if any) products have helped to heal their LO's. I'm also reluctant to go back to the GP as they seem to prescribe the cheapest products that aren't actually doing anything. Literally at my wits end. Thank you in advance.

Although not the same situation (no CMPA, no milk changes) I found the only thing that worked for DS was changing my washing powder after I worked out that it was only the area under his nappy (and so untouched by clothes) that remained smooth. I used soap flakes and it helped hugely, although since he was older I have used Fairy powder.
