E45 do a great sunblock for kids, my dd had bad eczema and it never irritated her.

Green People do a factor 25 in their Organic Children range . It has NO nasties in it and the range was devised by a parent needing products for their child with eczema.

We have found all their products to be very good.

I use green people organic lifestyle sun lotion factor 22 on our son who has eczema. It has never irritated his skin (even when his eczema was very severe). Wonderful stuff!

nelliesmum · 07/05/2008 22:46

Yes DD came out in hideous rash over arms and legs today and had scratched herself raw before nursery noticed. Will be looking for non-allergenic suncream so recommendations gratefully received.

Ah, I have similar concerns with DS. I hate to say it, but I think it comes down to trial and error as every skin type is different. DS can't wear the Green People one, really irritates his skin. My dermatologist suggested the E45 one, but because it works in a different way to most sunscreams (it forms a reflective barrier) it apparently has to contain parabens to preserve something or other that's in it??!? Anyway, he hasn't reacted to the E45 yet, only had it a few days, but we hate it with a vengeance - it makes him look like a little ghost, is difficult to apply, as it leaves a film on the skin he has rubbed it into his eyes which was mightily distressing and we find it tough to wash off and have to use showergel/soap to remove it. But hey, it doesn't seem to bug his eczema......

brimfull · 07/05/2008 23:28

bergadern is the only one I've found that ds doesn't react to.Does sting if you get it in your arms

HAve cupboards full of supposed sunscreens for sensitive skins that have brought him out in a rash.

brimfull · 07/05/2008 23:29

eyes not arms lol

berrieb · 07/05/2008 23:30

P20, ask your doctor about it . it's quite expensive , but you can get it on prescription.
You only have to apply once and it lasts all day aswell as being waterproof.
My doc gave it to me when I was a kid and I have never used anything else, as I have severe eczema.
Anything's worth a try!!

mummypig · 07/05/2008 23:53

I used to use the Green People's Organic Children one on ds1 as he seemed to react to everything else. I think it does contain almond oil though so perhaps not a good idea if you are aware of nut sensitivities. I would check on their website for you but my browser is being terribly slow.

ditavonteesed · 08/05/2008 17:46

I have ordered the green people one today after reading this, will let you know how we get on.

just wondering how you guys manage eczema skin care in the summer. i still put normal moisturisers on first thing in the morning, give it an hour and them apply the sun cream. but he can come out in a rash or itches.sometimes he scratches so much that he then comes out in hives, face and neck worse effected.should i stop using the moisturisers? not sure if i'm over loading his skin, but dont want to make eczema worse by not moisturising! help very confused!!!!(blush)

bran · 10/05/2008 09:56

I use Aveeno sun cream on ds. I use Aveeno moisturiser and bath oil to treat his eczema and so far it's worked very well and really reduced the severity of the outbreaks and we hardly ever have to use steroid cream.

Bergaderm was good too, but he's very wriggly so it was difficult to apply to his face without getting it in his eyes, and if he got very sweaty it sometimes the sweat carried some into his eyes.

Barmymama, for ds I moisturise just the bits that are dry/patchy while I'm dressing him or before breakfast. Then I apply sunscreen just before we go out. If he needs a whole body moisturise then I will do that in the evening. If your ds itches after the sun cream is applied you might need to try a different sun cream. My ds's neck always gets worse in the summer, but I think the heat makes it itchier and he scratches making it worse. So I always try to keep a wide brimmed hat on him to keep his neck cool.

1dilemma · 10/05/2008 10:05

Can you get it prescribed?
(wonder if school would help put it on then?-sorry I'm on another thread about similar)

Can I ask (for my other thread) does eczema get worse or better in the sun (generally)

MegBusset · 10/05/2008 10:18

DS's eczema flares up in the heat, so far I have just been keeping him out of the sun rather than applying suncream, but think I will investigate that Bergaderm stuff.

bran · 10/05/2008 13:59

My ds's eczema gets worse when it's dry, so dry summer days or cold clear winter days. Humidity seems to be much more of a factor for him than heat or cold or the amount of sunshine he gets.

Sam100 · 10/05/2008 14:03

We use Dr Hauschkas SPF 30 for children here. It smells lovely and does not irritate dd's skin. She has a port wine stain birthmark and has to wear sunscreen every day from April to October but also gets eczema so we have to be careful what we use.

Dr Huaschka stuff really stains pale clothes though, and I found it quite sticky and difficult to spread on ds's skin. He's not the sort of boy to sit still while I faff around, so it has to go on properly in one swipe.

Have just bought some Ultrasun, so am keeping my fingers crossed that this doesn't iritate.
They have 50ml extra atm , bought it in Waitrose.

barmymamma · 10/05/2008 21:12

wow! thank you for your replys! ive never posted a question on here before and didnt really think anyone would answer.its like having friends on tap!!
still not sure how to manage it. he hates having his creams done at best of times, so may try ommiting moisturisers and just using suncream all day when needed.at least then i'm not having the constant battle of trying to apply creams over and over again.
1dilemma...... you can get aveeno on prescription, but not sure school will apply it. my son has creams applied at least 3 times a day for his eczema and at the mo nursery will do it once for me, when he is there in the am. But i have been told that when he goes to school in sept that i will have to go down to the school to apply his creams if he needs it! they wont as they fear accusations of assault. despite the creams being prescribed.so would think that it is the same with sunscreen. I think this is shocking and almost neglect on there part, considering how damaging the sun is to young childrens skins!!

my DD has eczema - nasty but not hideously severe, she seems to be ok with E45 suncream atm.
