My daughter is 6 months old and I have started weaning while breastfeeding. She has cows milk protein allergy and I suspected a couple more allergies/intolerances so I cut out dairy, eggs, fish, nuts, soy, apple and saw a difference but now that I'm weaning I wanted to test out if she is able to eat these foods since it's not an official diagnosis. Only the cows milk protein allergy is.

She has done fine with banana and oatmeal. She did not do well with apple which I suspected and she did not do so well with avocado and eggs.

With avocado and eggs I noticed she was spitting up a lot more and having hiccups which was one of her usual symptoms of cows milk protein allergy until I cut out dairy. I cooked the eggs with dairy free butter.

I'm trying to take it easy with the process of weaning and I'm not sure if I'm overthinking this but could she have an intolerance to egg and avocado? Or because they are foods high in fat/ protein baby's stomach needs to get used to them? Is this reaction normal when weaning.

I am in no way medically trained but I had an allergy baby during lockdown and had to pretty much navigate it ourselves (with the help of some wonderful Facebook support groups). Non-Ige symptoms are tricky because babies always have so many things going on alongside so it's hard to say with certainty what is the cause. The one symptom my DD had that was very clear to us was dodgy nappies, things like hiccups and spit-ups seemed to be random occurrences that could happen anytime so may well be a coincidence. I do also believe that introducing new food types can take a bit of getting used to, especially if they have never had any exposure to them through breast milk. I personally would persevere and see if symptoms persistent/get worse. Good luck - baby allergies are a minefield that can be really consuming as a mum! x
