CMPA?

Hi all. Baby is nearly 14 weeks now and around 3 weeks ago started with a rash on forehead. This flares up and looks red and angry, definitely eczema. and baby is so itchy at night. Baby is fully breastfed. No other symptoms other than this eczema on head. Settled and happy during the daytime. My son was diagnosed with Ige dairy allergy at 6 months when he reacted to a lick of cheese sauce and his lips swelled up straight away. He was also ebf but the dietician at that time advised NOT to stop dairy for myself. So I'm just not sure what to do as every thing I read now says to eliminate it from my diet. Does this even sound like cmpa? Should I cut out dairy? Any advice would be appreciated x

Given you have family history it could well be cmpa. I think you could cut it out for a few weeks. If the eczema goes then you've confirmed it. Then you can either keep excluding or you could possibly add it in eating things only at the lower end of the ladder so he is still exposed but just not by a lot.

It could be an environmental allergy too. Washing powder for example. Seems odd on the face/head but my dc had this in response to being held by us and sitting in our arms in our clothes.

@Tipperttruck thank you for your reply! I don't think it's environmental as has just popped up out of nowhere and I haven't changed washing powder or anything like that. I think you're right I will give it a try and cut it out for a couple of weeks and see what happens x

The guidance is that if you have had no concerns when breastfeeding of allergies and they have reactions directly you can leave it in your diet but if you suspected something was a miss before they had a food directly and then they react you take it out.
Give them family history I think I would do a dairy free trial. Even if siblings have allergies it's not necessarily the case that their allergies will manifest in the same way. One may be fine with dairy through breastmilk and the other not

@Superscientist thank you that makes sense. I am on day 3 of dairy free so let's hope the eczema clears up in a few weeks.
