Hoping for some hope

FTM to an 8 month old. Weaning has been going...ok. He eats curries and stews and porridge etc. We have done the major allergens: peanuts, eggs, dairy, fish etc.

A couple of weeks ago, we were giving him a pouch of chicken and veg. I thought he had had it before. A rash came up on his face, so I stopped the food. The next day, I tried the same pouch (new pouch, same ingredients) and the same thing started to happen. I haven't given him that pouch since, but the only "new" food on it was apricots.

A few days ago, we had given him a vegetable pouch that he's had 10 times before. A few minutes after he finished the pouch, my husband said "I wonder would he try some of my Weetabix". He gave him less than a quarter teaspoon. We don't even think he swallowed much of it, just got it on his mouth.

A few minutes later, his lip started to swell. We have never seen a reaction like that before. I gave him 1ml of antihistamine and rang an ambulance. No other symptoms happened. No rash, no watery eyes, no vomiting. By the time the paramedics arrived, the lip was starting to go down and there was nothing for them to do. We went to our doctor who said that most allergists don't accept referrals for patients less than 12 months old.

He is EBF (apart from the solids). I eat wheat. He has eaten pasta and bread before. I drink cow's milk and he has had cow's milk in stews and purees before.

I don't know what gave him that reaction and I'm freaking out that if he has more of whatever it was the reaction will be 10 times worse. I usually get reassurance from other parents who say things like "Yeah, that happened us. Don't know but it never happened again." But the reaction this time when I tell people is "god that's serious" or "that's scary, I'd freak out".

I guess I'm looking for people's experience of it happening and not turning into an anaphylaxis or serious long-term allergy. I'm scared.

I think the GP should have at least referred you to a Paediatric Dietician.
