Child pin prick test

Hi, I was just looking for some advice. My daughter has a skin pin prick test tomorrow as we are sure she has a hazelnut allergy. We were at a party earlier today and she ate a cake with hazelnut in without me knowing. She came up in hives all round her mouth and then her eye started swelling. We gave her piriteze but I am now worried that they may refuse to do her pin prick test 😫. It was a 1 off dose she's not on antihistamines long term so I'm just wondering if anyone has been to one of these appointments and if they will still see her. By the time of the appointment, it will be 18hrs since the dose.

Ours are a minimum 3 days clear of antihistamines, call first thing and explain and hopefully they can reschedule soon.

@Timetochangenow do you think that will still be the case even though it was one dose and will be 18hrs? Thank you for your reply.

@Timetochangenow we didn't get any info on how to prepare for it just an appointment.

My son had one of these and I'm pretty sure that they need to have been off antihistamines for a few days beforehand.

Give them a call in the morning perhaps?

It’s any dose even one as that could mask the results and you won’t get a true result unfortunately

Ours is three days. I've got the letter on my fridge.

Really, it's not about them refusing to do it. It's about the possibility that the reaction won't be strong enough so she will be misdiagnosed which is the last thing you want.

They might offer blood testing instead.

I had to take AHs just before my first allergy appointment (they'd asked for a week without) and they were completely understanding. It's not unusual at all.

WhatMe123 · 08/12/2024 21:09

Yeah I'm sure it's three days or something sorry op

Nat2005 · 09/12/2024 05:05

Thank you all for your replies, I will give them a call first thing.

You may get a false negative, so check with the clinic.
