dairy products and eczema

my dd1 has had eczema all her life (she is now 14) never had any help from doctors they just give creams and moistureisers ( which tend to bring her skin up worse!). As she has got older the eczema is worse on her face - which of course she thinks is devastating. she wants to wear make up and use products and cant. Again the dr just said that at her age she shouldnt be thinking about using make up - but that is hardly realistic. despite our repeated assurances that she is beautiful, she uses minimal makeup.

i have read several times that dairy triggers eczema, so we have gone none dairy - for the last three weeks, and her face is a lot better. If we keep up the dairy free diet what should we do about lack of calcium? and should we go back to the dr for advice? and any ideas on dairy free products that dont cost the earth?

several problems in one i am afraid!! any help will be appreciated.

ime doctors do not believe diet is linked to eczema so i wouldn't bother

you can get calcium in lots of other foods:
green veg
fortified orange juice
rice milk with added calcium

i'm sure someone will be along in a minute with a link for you!

DD2 had dreadful eczema when she was little - used to tear her face apart. We stopped milk and it cleared up in less than a week. She now has some milk and some cheese but i limit it.

Is your dd ok with yoghurt? many people are ok with it as it is cultured or something! can't remember exactly...

i'd also advise her to take a probiotic as this seems to help a lot.

have stopped yoghurt too - she has been having soya yoghurts. will probably wait another week and then try some milk and see what happens. Thanks for the calcium ideas.
