Teen daughter full body rash

Wallywobbles · 21/09/2024 12:55

DD18 has had a rash that developed over the last few weeks. I'm posting this but she'll add any details and answers after.

It's on her body, arms, legs, neck. It starts off really scratchy and then turns into round circles. It's getting worse.

Her BF eats, sleeps and lives with her and he's not got anything. She's on her mattress from home.
She's not stressed.

She's been given treatment for ring worm, allergies (her neighbor is an allergy specialist) etc and mycosis. Nothing is working. She tried eczema cream that normally works.

Does anyone have any thought. I've asked to add a list of creams she is using.

Has she been to see a doctor?

Tulipvase · 21/09/2024 12:59

It looks similar to something my daughter had, pityrisis rosacea (sp). It starts with a herald spot.

Hi, i have been to the doctor. Unsurprisingly, he also had no idea what the spots are or where they could come from.

I did my research on this, and it seems very likely. Thank you!

I hope whatever it does turn out to be, resolves quickly!

This is what I thought

ThePure · 21/09/2024 14:13

I had pityriasis as a teen. It's benign and goes away on its own

I had the 'herald patch' on my lower back which I thought was a carpet burn from doing sit ups on bedroom floor!

The rash classically has a 'Christmas tree distribution' which I recall mine did and the spots are scaly.

ThePure · 21/09/2024 14:18

Those pics do look just like it.

My GP did actually diagnose it accurately (although he scared me a bit talking about psoriasis)

Iloveagoodnap · 21/09/2024 14:23

It looks very much like scabies which my daughter caught and then passed to the rest of us. So if her boyfriend hasn't got it it might not be that as it is quite contagious, but it does look very like it when we had it. Especially the big patch on her back/shoulder. It was a nightmare when we had it. Had to wash all bedding, cushion covers etc. Had to bag up all my daughter's soft toys for a few days. We got cream from the doctor that we had to apply that night and then again a week later. I also got some other cream to use more regularly as it took weeks to go!

Hi, i don't think so because i barely have any on my legs, and the website says : "Discoid eczema usually affects the limbs, particularly the legs, but the rash may be widespread."

rainbowbee · 21/09/2024 18:59

I had something similar- the GP said it was a fungal infection. A cream and medicated shower gel cleared it inside a week.

BigBlueTeapot · 21/09/2024 19:01

Pityriasis rosea. I had it at uni first year. It's really common in that age range. Lasts about 12 weeks iirc and then disappears.

I came here to say the same thing, pityriasis rosea. I had it when my DD was 1, in the summer - I was covered and it was disgusting (the herald patch was on my chest, and it spread from there). If your daughter itches, @Wallywobbles , I think oatmeal baths are recommended. In my case, there was no itch, just the rash. If I remember correctly, it took 2-3 months until it cleared completely.

I was given those, nothing really changes...
