Can mucus in newborn poo be normal?

Hi all,
My first had CMPA and early motherhood was plagued by breastfeeding, colic and sleep issues. My second baby is five weeks old and seems more settled generally and is breastfeeding well on a whole. However she does spit up regularly and can have upset tummy a few times (squirming and wincing) a day but it doesn’t last - relieved my passing wind, pooing or spewing. I am so traumatised by first experience that I don’t know what’s just normal baby digestion/discomfort and what’s an allergy or breastfeeding issue (I have a fast letdown and lots of milk). Her poo is yellow but does have strings in it when I separate the nappy which I’m assuming is mucus. Is some mucus, digestion discomfort normal at this stage (5 weeks) or a symptom for CMPA/breastfeeding problems again?

thanks In advance.

overthinking mammy!!!!

My 2 both have cmpa. First child was very similar story to yours until diagnosis at 4 months. 2nd child had nappies like that and rash very similar and then went on nursing strike at 8 weeks. Resolved on switching to allergy formula.

both are still dairy free and still react to small amounts of milk ladder.

if you are breastfeeding you could try going dairy free and see if it resolves dc symptoms? (often soy can also cause the same issues due to how similar the protein is)

The mucus and especially the rash do look like cmpa.

My son's poo was full of mucus when he was a baby and I asked the exact same question you are asking on here. We never did get the the bottom of it, but something wasn't right.

Rash and mucus plus family history I think I would be doing a trial of dairy free and low soya (no dairy/meat replacements but you don't need to exclude where it's just an ingredient at first). Also start a food and symptom diary at the same time.

I had a multiple allergy baby and had a battle for diagnosis. I have a few regrets but one is not doing a trial dairy free sooner. I waited for permission after being told it categorically couldn't be allergies so it was 17 weeks before I started taking allergens out of my diet. She has 20 confirmed allergies and I think I would be quicker to do a trial the second time around.

Any antibiotics for either of you? My friends daughter has awful nappies for a long time after she had antibiotics. She did a dairy free trial but it didn't make a difference but with time things improved
