Hello Paula,
Another Nurse here, I have just done Oliver’s Mandatory training this morning and came to MN to search for his name to see if there had ever been a thread raising awareness about what happened to him.
I am so sorry for that happened to your lovely boy, I found myself in tears and had to go for a wander to compose myself. I am always amazed by the families who can still find it in themselves to teach us all in the face of such pain. Since the first time I watched Martin Bromily’s video about his wife Elaine and his talk on Human Factors I have never forgotten them, and I will never forget Oliver and what happened to him either.
In my organisation I run a noticeboard/display where I put up information monthly about rare and unusual diagnoses/conditions and those that might unexpectedly blindside us (this is a special interest of mine), staff can submit them or I choose them and then make a display. I will add Neuroleptic Malignant Syndrome to the list and cover this soon, I’ll make reference to Oliver and his mandatory training when I cover NMS, if that’s okay with you?
All the best x
