Just about to start LO on this for cmpa.

What’s everyone’s experiences & how long did symptoms take to resolve if they did?
Did symptoms get worse before better?

This is 8 years ago for us now, but the symptoms for ds disappeared almost instantly. He was a completely different baby.

He was on the complete milk free stuff though. At first it was partial mixed, and that helped at first but then symptoms came back and he had to have a complete dairy free diet. Started the milk ladder when he was just over 1, and now at 9, he is perfectly fine. No sign of ever having CMPA

Just expect a few horrendous nappies before he settles though!

Dc2 was rapidly losing weight from birth (exclusively breastfed) so we were told to top him up with formula as he just kept losing weight despite him feeding so well. After 2 top up bottles of formula it was apparent he had cmpa; hence not gaining weight as the cows milk protein that I was eating was passing through my breast milk.
I completely cut dairy (and soy) and we topped him up with nutramigen. At about 8 months we stopped breastfeeding and he solely had nutramigen (and also food by then)
He did thrive on it, but it made him smell. A constant cheesy smell coming out of his skin/pores and hair which wasn’t a great side effect. It was obvious in a few days that it suited him, no more mucusy bloody nappies and rock solid tummy (with screaming/discomfort)
luckily dc’s allergy is a non-ige allergy, which means they don’t have an anaphylactic reaction, but it still is an allergy.

It apparently can take a while to see if it suits them, so give it a good chance. It does still have cows milk in, its just that the protein has been hydrolysed to help babies digest it better; so if after a few days you don’t see any improvement it may be that they need a completely dairy free formula from the GP.
make sure you make it up according to the tub, don’t use boiling water like you would for regular formula as it can kill the bacteria that is needed in the formula.

we were on aptimil pepti 1 at first... there was an improvment then a back slide at about 2 weeks in...so we switched to Nutramigen and we saw an almost immediate improvement... i switched again to alfamino but that was just because we had supply issues with nutramigen (i think these are resolved)

The improvement was very clear by the 72 hour mark

DSs nappies are horrendous its like a barnyard type smell but small price to pay.as eczema is resolved and he is gaining /thriving now
