My dd2 had a peanut challenge in hospital when she was 3 after having a slight skin based reaction to some peanut butter that was wiped on her arm accidently by her sister, she also had a skin prick test which gave a minor reaction (about 3mm I think). She seemed to have no reaction to the challenge although refused to eat more than 1/2 a peanut.

She is now nearly 7 and we have continued to avoid nuts just in case, we have them in the house though but are careful, but we do let her eat things that say may contain traces, We have had no other incidents of allergy in the past 4 years.

My question is should I try her on other nuts now? She has hazelnuts with no problem but I am a worrier and scared to try others, would wiping a small amount of pesto on her arm be a good place start? wwyd?

talk to your doctor or the hospital. You can get a blood test for different types of nut.
There is some debate amongst doctors aobut whether or not the person needs to have exposure first to nuts before developing a reaction.
You are lucky that you know what the reaction was from.
Try an allergy forum. Often other parents have more answers. There are groupings of foods.
almonds are not a nut (I think they are a seed) Also macadamia and brazil nuts are know to have different strains of allergen.
toasting nuts often changes the molecular structure of the allergen too.
Please check all this information first as this is all from memory.
Have you read the allergy bible? See if you can get hold of a copy to borrow.
They do say that if you have had anaphalaxis (breathing and throat-shock) with an allergen, any challenge should be in hospital.
You are lucky - we do not know what caused our son to have a subcutenous reaction , but we have narrowed it down to kiwi - we think!

I think pine nuts (pesto) are seeds too. But check first

Thanks for your reply, I do have the allergy bible as she also had an egg allergy as a baby, I might go and speak to my doctor as she no longer has to go to the hospital. I do remember though my sister gave her some spag bol which she had put some shop bought pesto into containing cashew and pinenut (without thinking), so she has definately had some exposure albeit in a small amount.
