Help! New carpet causing asthma flare up

Our landlord has recently put a new carpet in and it's causing my asthma to majorly flare up. Is there anything at all I can do to help it? Never had this problem before so don't know what to do. I'm having to use my blue inhaler multiple times a day which isn't great. The only time I've needed to do that before is when we had major mould problems in our old place and the only thing that helped was moving out. It's only since the new carpet so I'm assuming it's that but don't know what to do to resolve the problem.

Vacuum it at least daily. Open windows to ventilate out the ‘new’ smell. There’s a fair chance it has been ‘finished’ with some anti stain chemical which may be aggravating your asthma, so let the air take away the excess chemical smell as much as you can.
oh and if it continues , see if you can get some steroid tablets to help your asthma settle.

Thanks @Dearg. Do you have any idea how long it normally takes to get rid of it? It does have a weird smell too so I assume it's been treated like you say.

Well, it can take a while. Couple of weeks rather than days. Of course at the same time you may become ‘attuned’ to it and your asthma may calm down. Just ventilate whenever you can - and preferably leave a window open while you sleep.
Sorry you have to deal with it. I know the feeling well. No help to you, but we no longer have carpet in bedrooms because of my lungs 😏

Do you have an asthma plan? It sounds like you need to step up your preventer treatment until the carpet chemicals die down.

Can you get someone in to wash the carpet? It might get rid of some of the chemical smell.

Friend had this, took two weeks to settle.

Thanks all. Sounds like I need to do my preventer more often. I'll order another one now so I don't run out! We keep the windows open all the time at the moment and trying to keep the doors between rooms open to try and get as much fresh air flow as possible. Think we're on a waiting game then. Honestly if no carpet was an option I'd do that but sadly we're renting so have no control over it.
