Oral food challenge passed but allergy returned

Wondering if anyone has had a similar experience, as ours appears to be unusual.

my son (aged 7 ) has had a peanut allergy since 18months. Last month, he had follow up skin prick tests which showed neglible readings for peanuts. He was entered into an oral food challenge and went through the whole process with no reaction. We were discharged and delighted to be told he could introduce peanuts into his diet.

We started giving him a teaspoon of peanut butter 3 times a week and for about 10 days all was fine. On the fourth dose he complained of throat pain, stomach pain, had some hives around his mouth snd eventually vomited.

the hospital advised us to reduce his dose by half, saying it was fairly common and his immune system probably just had too much too soon. They were confident he would be able to tolerate smaller doses.

feeling uneasy, we reduced his dose right down to aboit 1/8th of s teaspoon. Kind of as i expected he had had low level symptoms with each dose since then - either a slight sore throat or stomach pain and nausea.

we have now paused the doses and are waiting for follow up advice from the hospital.

has anyone experienced anything similar? Really hoping we are not back to square one.

many thanks.
