Hi everyone!

just wanted some advice as I’m really struggling at the moment. My son is 6 weeks old and he is bringing up feeds almost every time, he has a rash on his face and chest and he is so unsettled all he does is cry.

been to the GP and they have prescribed him SMA althera and it seemed to improve his symptoms the first day! No rash and he seemed quite settled but now he’s even worse than he was before. Non stop crying, he’s bringing up his feeds and his rash is now returning.

I’m not sure what to do other than to back to the GP? He’s not sleeping properly and I also have a one year old so safe to say I’m definitely struggling!

Any advice would be much appreciated! Any advice on formula or whether I should keep him on the SMA?

Is it the liquid you've been lucky enough to be prescribed?

Or the Losec Mups?

It’s the liquid I believe. Has only just come in to the pharmacy so picking it up today!

Hi guys!

really sorry but I’m asking for some more advice! Been on alfamino and his rash has completely cleared which is great! His reflux is a lot worse but I guess it takes time for the omeprazole to work.

just wanted to know whether it’s normal for babies to have explosive nappies on alfamino? His nappies are green and really watery!

We've not had Alfamino but have been on four others and finally settled on Neocate - all of DDs nappies are like this! She doesn't strain or seem uncomfortable though so I'm just accepting it. I've got a call with the dietician next week so I'm going to ask if it's normal.and if they'll firm up

AllABitNew · 17/07/2024 12:11

Yeah we had very green nappies on Neocate too so I assume the same is normal for Alfamino.

Nobody gives you a heads up about that bit 🤦‍♂️

Hi!! Happy result! Can I please ask how long did it take to work/see a comfortable baby?

It took about a week for a noticeable difference! But I’ve heard it can take longer

I was just wondering if the watery poos ever settled down?

They did settle eventually!

Hi OP! Glad everything settled down for you and your LO eventually. Just wondering if the change you saw was due to the combination of Alfamino & Omeprazole or did you just use the Alfamino alone? Currently on day 2 of this milk and although a lot of symptoms are settling, my 6 week old is still very distressed on feeding so wondering if I need something to treat reflux too. Thanks!

Hi! We never needed to use the Omeprazole in the end, the milk was enough. You know your baby best so if you feel that they’re still not taking milk easily then you may be right in that the reflux is still playing a part! X
