Legumes!

My teen was tested years ago and retested (to check if outgrown allergies) for nut allergy. We were told to avoid nuts - the reason we got him tested was reaction to eating a snickers bar - peanuts. I've only just realised that peanuts are legumes and now I'm worried I should be hiding the chickpeas and products with soy in them! although this was not mentioned at the time. They did test him for other stuff - grasses but cant remember what else. Not sure if overreacting or not? Any advice? Would hospital automatically test for legumes if peanut reaction present?

Has he eaten chickpeas/other legumes and had a reaction?

Not that I know of, dont think he's even tried chickpeas (I eat roasted ones from packet shop bought).

I want to be save but also dont want to add extra worry if being overboard (I have ocd and already paranoid about nut contamination).

I dont understand why not told about avoiding other legumes.

I have an allergy to peanuts and wasn't tested for others at the time - but eat peas and chickpeas etc absolutely fine.

I have a peanut & nut allergy and am also allergic to legumes. The symptoms aren't as extreme though. You could ask for a skin prick test (not sure the official name) and it would show up!

My 4 year old has a peanut allergy and is also allergic to legumes. Only 5% of people have both, and there are a LOT of foods which contain legumes, particularly things like crisps, cereals, protein bars etc, so i would be very surprised if your teen had not already been exposed. Don't worry OP!

Does he ever eat sausages? If so he's likely to have already eaten chickpeas! Most sausages are bulked with gram flour, gram flour is made from chickpeas!
DS has a severe peanut allergy and, we discovered, a mild allergy to chickpeas. Soy is fine. It really does depend on the person.
