Is it definitely a sun allergy? How does it manifest?

If I use Nivea or Soltan I get a terrible reaction, insanely itchy heat rash

Piz Buin or some other brands, not a thing

My immunologist recommends Altruist sun products, I've been impressed so far.

Piriton and Cetirizine are widely available in liquid form for children, Piriton can be used for younger children, but can make kids drowsy (not mine!). But if you use decent sun protection he shouldn't need AHs.

I'd use full coverage uv rated clothing, then you only have to use sun cream on face and hands. Eucerin do a sun allergy cream that is very wide spectrum, and I quite like it.
Off the beach/pool the Uniqlo uv hoodies are fantastic (as an adult with sun issues I have 5 in different colours) and cover from the back of your hands right up your neck and are very breezy too.

Dc has this. Hospital consultant prescribed La Roche posay factor 50.
It was any antihistamine suitable so we tried the usual one then switched to fexifenadine.

Also dc was told to cover up and wear a big hat and seek shelter.

adjusting your lifestyle is the first defense. Dragging your child along to be miserable is not fair to them. Btdt as a child with parents who could not be bothered to consider their delicate child if it meant compromising their own holiday.

suncream helps, but strategic clothing and shade is better. SPF clothes, hats, and occasionally even umbrellas.

One if the things the consultant told us was that from spring onwards to try to “harden” your body to the sun/ uv. To expose skin for half an hour each day. Then the response is lessened in summer. But to still take precautions.
