Hi,

My LO has always loved his bottles. He's 7MO. He used to drink inbetween 50-60oz which I know is a wild amount.
He's now on 3 meals a day, and I'm struggling to get him to take 16oz most days. I got him weighed the other day, and her had dropped a percentile, but the HV wasn't concerned as he was still in the same percentile from his 6 week check. I'm so concerned he's going to drop further.
He is on Nutramigen and I've started introducing him onto the milk ladder as recommended by a HV. Could it be that he's got an aversion to the taste of the milk?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Personally I'd only do the milk ladder after 12 months and under the supervision of a Paediatric Dietician. You might have a good HV but mine gave out some pretty wacky advice, often bordering on the dangerous.

I'd stop all dairy before he develops the association of dairy equals pain and drop one meal a day for a couple of weeks.

How are you both now @jolls91?

jolls91 · 25/05/2024 19:52

Really not great.
On 11oz so far. He's made an association with his bottle and milk. So I can't even get him to take water out of his bottle unless I take the lid off (we have a tippy cup, but he only likes free flowing, he bangs the tippy cup constantly on his head).

So if I take the teat off a bottle he'll drink water. But if I try with the nutramigen he won't touch it. I'm at an absolute loss as to what to do 😫

Have you seen a Paediatric Dietician? You should be under one. If not then ask for a referral. If you are then ring and ask for advice. Only a dietitian or a paediatrician should be given advice about the milk ladder.

I was told by dietician to only start offering 3 meals a day from 9 months old so based on that I would drop a meal.

Really sorry if this is brief, have been on the Wine Blush

It sounds as if you definitely need to give him a DF diet abd get that referral to a Paediatric Dietician as Sunny says.

I think the milk your LO has been prescribed contains dairy but is hydrolysed? I think it's time to try a comely DF formula.

The trouble is both probably taste vile. You can add alcohol free vanilla essence or Nesquik to make them more palatable.

If they are 7 months and have only had 11 floz in 24 hours I'd be tempted to go to A&E. if you don't fancy they I'd at least phone 111.

And like sunny says, milk ladder should only be under the supervision of a Paediatrician or a Paediatric Dietician abd only after 12 months and 3 meals a day from between 8 and 9 months Flowers
