Allergic reaction to Calpol?

My 8 month old DD had a bit of a temperature at nursery today and they suggested I gave her some Calpol. I've only ever given chemist's-own infant paracetamol once before and was amazed at her reaction - when I went to see her an hour later she was what I'd describe as hyper! Couldn't stop moving, kicking her legs, scratching and shouting. Could this be a reaction? Just checked the ingredients and there are 5 E-numbers! What's my alternative?

Please note that Calpol uses an ingredient that has been banned from some adult foodtsuffs.

I can't remember what it is, but it was in the news recently - maybe Google will throw it up for you.

I only know because I have started up in a pure skincare business and have been researching leading brands for kids products. It's frightening because I fed my kids Calpol for years!

There's sometimes alot of colouring in childrens medicine, that's why it's pink! It could be this. The pharmasist should be able to help you find something else.

I would look here www.wddty.com and do a search it's a very reliable site. I'm allergic to paracetemol, gives me hives and my lungs swell up. Pharamceuticals are not as innocuous as we've been sold.

Thanks for your replies. I've taken a look at the site rebelmum - seems it's well-known for its e-ingredients. I feel quite annoyed that medicines aimed at babies and toddlers have all this crap in them. And it is unnecessary - babies don't care what colour it is! I'm going to bin my Calpol and see what else is out there.

my D3 does this, but not to calpol...to any and all of the chemist varieties!!!

makes her come out all itchy and hivey.

If I couldn't get calpol I used to get the disolvable disprol tablets.....altho not entirely sure of contents, she did at least take them and not react.

nurofen is ok to take too as long as no history of wheeeziness, but then nurofen is 6hrly dosed rather than 4hrly.

My ds2 throws up within 1/2 hour of having calpol. He is fine with nurofen.

Tried him with calprofen the other day (been off school all week with high temp & headache) and he threw that up too.

I have a friend whose ds reacts like you have said to calpol - apparently it is one of the e-numbers.

My dd doesn't have it I use alternatives. I see a herbalist and we use accupressure for emergencies, I've been on a course so I can use do it myself. There's a point that brings down the temp. More effective in the long terms and helps the body help itself. But we have a long history of allergies to pharmaceuticals.
