I need to celebrate! After 55 years my hay fever has stopped!

Can I ask you to join me in my little celebration today please?
I've had hay fever since I was 11- during my twenties and thirties when there weren't many/any helpful remedies available I used to have red swollen jelly eyes, have tissues permanently stuffed up my nose and sleeves and talk like I'd got a nose clip on.
For the first year since I was 11 I've realised I've got no symptoms and am no longer dopey and lethargic and drowning in snot.
I'm having a beer to celebrate 🙌 🍻🍻

Hurrah! It was just a phase! Well done xx

So you're 66? I've only got 14 more summers to suffer, then! Woohooooooo!

Alternative is to spend all summer abroad - the bliss when you get off the plane and there's no grass pollen. Mosquitoes yes but no pollen!!

I'm so happy for you
my mother got hayfever for the first time in her 60s - up until then she was sure I was making a fuss over nothing about my hayfever 🙄- so seems it can go either way!

CadyEastman · 19/05/2024 17:31

Amazing. I think I may have yours. Mine is horrendous this year but strangely my DSis who usually suffers more than is symptom free.

I will have a very small, very weak beer later on your behalf. That's all we have in 🍺

justthecat · 19/05/2024 18:55

I've had tree allergies from where we live about ten years, very swollen puffy eyes , intense rash and burning skin. It really does affect you , this year very much nothing.
Good for you

Decafflatteplease · 19/05/2024 19:04

This is great news! I've only suffered with hay fever for about 5 years don't know why it started! I have prescription strength tablets which take the edge off but already I'm thinking roll on autumn!

DatingDinosaur · 19/05/2024 19:25

Congratulations 🍺

I think you've given it to me. After 40 years of not suffering (suffered as a child but grew out of it), it's back with a vengeance.

Bloody peri-menopause.

Noshferatu · 20/05/2024 09:23

I didn’t have hay fever until I was in my 40s come to think of it - and I didn’t get it last year and so far not this one so I’ve been having a Phase too 😊

Marketplacevirgin · 20/05/2024 09:24

That's great @Dreamingofgreece

I think it's possible you've passed it on to me. I am 55 and think I am having it for the first time this year 😂

OpusGiemuJavlo · 20/05/2024 09:31

I didn't get hayfever until after I had been pregnant in my mid 30s - I am sure there's hormonal links so am not at all surprised that some people's hayfever status changes at menopause.

I suffered for years as of the two main OTC hayfever remedies that were generally available I have a weird palpitation reaction to one and the other just didn't work but the relatively new "Alleivia" stuff both works for me and doesn't trigger any weird side effects for me so I am happy. Will be even happier if it goes altogether post-meno though!
