Apatamil pepti intolerance

Hello my daughter was diagnosed with cow milk allergy at 3 weeks old and started on apatmil pepti 1 formula shes now 14 weeks. Since using the formula she has became constipated, usually poos every 3 days which are very smelly and large and gets a lot of smelly wind with reflux, she's been prescribed lactulose but I don't want to rely too much on this incase she gets a lazy bowel. Just wondering if anyone has had similar issues and if maybe switching her formula may help?

my DS was the same but was also not fully responsive to pepti 1 so we moved on the neocate/ Alfamino.

he was much better on that.
my understanding is Pepti 1 is for intolerance as only hypoallergenic.

neocate etc is for cmpa

Thank you! sounds like I'll have to get in touch with her gp to get her formula changed

Agree with PP. Had exactly the same with my daughter, now on neocate and thriving.
They can sometimes be reluctant to prescribe it though because of the cost so you may have to put your foot down!

The facebook cmpa page is really good. There are lots of knowledge and helpful people on there.

lactulose shouldn’t make her have a lazy bowel as it doesn’t stimulate the bowel, it works by binding to water molecules to make sure the poo doesn’t get dried out hard. The ERIC website explain this in more detail/ better than I have.

I was originally breast feeding but had lots of problems with feeding/ latching and she lost weight. My midwife actually advised me to switch to bottle feeding as I was getting no sleep due to her constantly needing to feed.
So let's not shame people for not breastfeeding as its not always successful for everyone, fed is best.

+1 on nhs being reluctant to prescribe.

We got a private prescriptionfor the first tin THEN went via gp for subsequent ones.
The cost is shocking 400g formula is £39!
We use over £100 a week...

What we found was our ds was initially better /showing improvement with pepti but then started to "backslide". If this sounds familar def push for new formula.

Oh and for the reflux lanzoprolole (spelling?) is THE business.
Omrazeprole can also help.

Again GPs are awkward about prescribing it.

When we went private we went to see one of the top paed gastro ent drs and this is what he put our son on / told me so worth aski g about that if the reflux is causing pain / your baby is dropping centiles.

Fwiw this is my 2nd. Had i been breastfeeding AND dealing with his illness/crying/failure to thrive annnnd the need to eat a total dairy free diet ON TOP my mental health would be in the toilet.
i am really happy i choose to FF from birth
