Anxiety after a severe reaction

I had a severe reaction to amoxicillin this week honestly thought I was going to die, not sure if I’m being over kill there but was very frightening. Within 10 mins of taking it my whole body rashed up, my throat felt like it was closing and went extremely dry like I had never felt before, also I felt extremely faint (found out that was due to very low blood pressure). My body when red and lips white. Ambulance turned up quickly and had iv antihistamines and fluids as blood pressure was low and later at hospital iv steroids.
Im so scared of it happening again, my son is also poorly again I’m scared of now catching anything as I’m still poorly.
Im asthmatic and have took amoxillian about 5/6 times a year for the last 20 years! Although since Covid I have not had any as through Covid I caught nothing and after Covid was always prescribed a different penicillin but penicillin. I was last prescribed penicillin December! I will admit I was extremely achey on it the last few times I just thought I was poorly but last time I even said to hubby I swear it was the tablets as really felt awful on them. However no rash or anything things just extremely achey.
Im really anxious that any other antibiotics will cause this reaction! I don’t even know what I would do? As I couldn’t swallow an antihistamine. It was such a shock and something I have taken in the past and I’m now worried what else I may get that allergic to! I’m sure I’m being irrational however it’s a massive shock and honestly it’s left me with a lot of anxiety. Will it be worse next time? 😭

It must have been very frightening for you!
Sending you hugs.

It's normal and it will pass with repeated safe uses of medicine without a reaction you need to build trust in yourself.

I had two anaphylaxis reactions to food in 6 months. In both cases it was to cafe/restaurant food and it took a long time to build up the trust that when I ate out I wouldn't react. It took time to have an itch without panicking that it was the start. It just takes time.

It was easier the more I did it which isn't ideal with antibiotics! I wonder if taking something like a multivitamin regularly would help normalise it in your mind?

@Superscientist did you find out what food? That must of been awful at least with mine it should be just meds.
Do you have a epi pen? I’m awaiting mast cell test? Then I need to go to my gp. My kids are poorly again and I’m petrified to catch any thing esp as I still have a chest infection (which is getting better without antibiotics).

I have a histamine release reaction and they were non-immune anaphylaxis. I carried EpiPens for a few years but I haven't had an severe episode for 10+years and don't carry them any more

I had blood and skin pricks which were all negative so the Dr looked at the foods that triggered the reactions and each time I had eaten a lot of high histamine foods prior to the reactions
