PurAmino - is it working?!

Hi all,

My 3 month old baby has been struggling with tummy issues since 3 weeks old. Paed initially diagnosed reflux and prescribed Losec Mups 15 mg (quite high dose but he is a big baby). After two weeks of no improvement paed said to discontinue the meds, as the LO kept being fussy during feeds and would keep grunting and squirming the whole night. He was eventually diagnosed with CMPA (after having a bad reaction to cows milk on milk challenge) a week ago. We moved him to PurAmino formula which he is drinking happily and his poops have gone green and smelly (which I understand is normal on AA formula). But he is still so so unsettled during the night! Last night he just screamed for an hour and we had to feed him twice (despite him dropping the night feeds completely 2 weeks ago). I know it has only been 2 days on PurAmino and it takes time for the cows milk to flush out of the system, but I would have at least expected him to be the same if not show little improvement?.. Whreas he just seems so grumpy and more unsettled than before, and brings up small amounts of formula all the time. What are your experiences of PurAmino? Do babies seem hungrier and less satisfied on this type of formula as it’s thinner? Would adding a thickener help keep him fuller for longer - or is it only useful if they can’t keep the milk down at all? If your babies got better with PurAmino how long did it take and was it a gradual improvement or ups and downs? Seeing the GI specialist again in two weeks, but looking for some peace of mind in the meantime!

Omperazole can make things worse before they get better so I'm surprised they stopped the omperazole so quickly. Depending on his weight he might not have been on the maximum dose either. My daughter need the highest dose of omperazole and gaviscon and a third medication domperidone as well as removing all of her allergies to control her reflux. We were on omperazole and gaviscon for 10 weeks before we reached a dose combination that helped my daughter. It would have been quicker but my GP gave incorrect prescribing advice. This is her paediatricians opinion not ours

Alfamino or neocate are better amino acid formulas to try to be honest. Puramino contains soya and half of babies with a dairy allergy also have an allergy to soya.
