DD Allergic reaction when outside

Hi,
Just wondering if anyone has had similar. My DDs face and hands started to go red and rash appeared when on the way to school walking a couple of days ago. Happened again the next day so we took her home and gave piriton and was ok after 15 mins. Then again this morn, we walked down to local library and she had been fine all morning but after 5 mins outside a rash appeared on her hands and face. After 15 mins inside the library it has faded (without piriton)
Im attaching pics. Pharmacy recommended piriton but no advice really and docs wouldn't have a call with us they referred us to pharmacy.
Just wondering if anyone had any experience of similar? It's not painful but she's very self conscious about it.

Is there something new she’s doing in the morning? New soap/food etc

Magicmagician · 02/03/2024 12:31

Tree pollen? A woolly hat? Poor thing, hope you get to the bottom of it

chorusline79 · 02/03/2024 12:31

@DustyLee123 no no new food or soap etc and she didn't wash this morn! I did wonder that but it's literally only after we have gone outside... it comes up all of a sudden. I did wonder about a tree or bush?! But it's just baffling...

Did she wear the same coat both times?

There could be something in the coat causing it,
Dd2 has a mild cat allergy if cat hairs get in her coat she can get a rash

BlessedBeTheFruitShoots · 02/03/2024 12:35

My DS has exactly the same reaction to mould spores. Piriteze daily as a preventative was advised by the allergy nurse. It's quite late in the year for it now I think though? As the mould tends to be from the rotting leaves on the ground in autumn-winter...

MyGooseisTotallyLoose · 02/03/2024 12:36

How different is the temperature when you go outside? Could it be from going hot to cold?

chorusline79 · 02/03/2024 12:36

@RockSocks yes I thought about the coat and took it off her the second day and gave her a different coat just in case ... but still happened. So just trying to rule out
@Magicmagician yes perhaps tree pollen ...
I feel sorry for her as it's really upsetting her when people look or comment on it.

Looks like the cold air, I was the same

AutumnFroglets · 02/03/2024 12:48

Urticaria. And yes I have it. GP diagnosed it as prickly heat, recommended SPF50, full sleeves and sun hat and antihistamines. At least I was 30 and not a child. Hopefully you can find a decent antihistamine that works for her, GPs can prescribe stronger ones.

Edit - just remember if you keep her covered up to make sure she takes vitamin d supplements.

Cold urticaria? I have cholinergic which is heat/exercise induced. Now on an injectable medication for it, it started when I was about 11

chorusline79 · 02/03/2024 14:20

Thankyou all so much for commenting and for your help - I think that the cold urticaria suggestion is something to look into ... I am grateful for the input, thanks so much. I'll make an appointment to discuss and try to get some antihistamines.
