Early days - confused about basics!

So my DS is coming up to 7 months. We started weaning at 6 months (a mix of spoon fed and BLW).

We’ve noticed that on each occasion he’s had yoghurt (plain Greek and fromage frais) a rash comes up on each side of his head around his temples/toward his eyes. It’s not bumpy or itchy, it comes up almost instantly and goes away after about 10 minutes. It’s not through contact as I’ve watched now to make sure the food/his hands don’t touch the area.

Leads us to think he has some sort of allergy/intolerance to cows milk? But he’s been on normal formula since he was 5 months (combination feeding) and I eat dairy and he’s never shown any issue with these. It’s just the yoghurt. So can this be a cows milk allergy if he’s fine with the formula?

I also read about lactose intolerance but read that yoghurt is low in lactose, surely formula is higher? So would expect a reaction more from formula, which there isn’t.

Thank you! Any guidance appreciated.

I would stop giving the yoghurt and speak to the GP for advice.

If it comes up immediately it could be an ige allergic reaction and these can get worse with continued exposures.

Is he on a comfort formula by any chance? Also, how much formula is he having? It could be that it is cmpa but with some degree of tolerance for dairy. Once more dairy is added to the diet it's at a level beyond what can be tolerated and that triggers a reaction. Some of the comfort milks has dairy slightly broken down so it could be that it's at a lower level of dairy compared to the yoghurt.

With rashes that come up immediately and confirm not to be contact reactions my advice would be always to stop giving that food and to seek medical advice.

It's unlikely to be lactose as breastmilk has high levels of lactose and lactose intolerance in breastfed babies would make them quite unwell

Excellent advice from Superscientist. I would also consider going DF.
