Hi all I’m wondering if anyone has any advice my Lo is 5 1/2 weeks old and we have had it pretty rough since he was born. Started with constantly throwing up after a feed so the doctor said to feed little and often this did nothing. He was then put on sma althira with suspected cows milk allergy. This did nothing so he was moved on to sma alfamino and prescribed gaviscon. The gaviscon didn’t work and was still being sick and becoming constipated.
he is now on carobel to thicken his milk as it’s very watery. This is really helping with the sickness ( just under 1 scoop in 4oz) however my Lo is doing 1 poo a day which is normal for him but it’s diarrhoea, very watery and has become a lot more unsettled. Crying a lot, appearing in pain lots of excess wind and tensing up. This can be at any time but seems worse in the early evening. Does anyone have any advice as I’m still waiting for my appointment with the dietitian and paediatrician.
thanks Amy

My daughter is allergic to carobel.

We manage her reflux with a combination of gaviscon (& lactulose for the constipation), omperazole and domperidone.

There are other thickeners too such as magic mix and thick'n'easy but I don't have experience of those. I would ask about omperazole if you haven't tried that yet.

Hi,

Had the same experience with my little girl. 3 weeks ago I noticed she had reflux. She was really unsettled, arching back, hiccuping, coughing, sneezing, wheezy, rolling tongue and sticking it out constantly, being sick and crying. I spoke to the GP who gave us Carobel sent us to A&E. They suspected CMPA and prescribed nutramigen 1. Dr wasn’t interested in listening to my concerns with reflux as she had gained weight and told us to stop the Carobel.

She continued to display symptoms that were worsening and ended up in hospital for 2 days as she was constantly vomiting. She inevitably lost weight. Was prescribed Carobel again alongside pure amino milk. This stopped the sickness but she ended up with silent reflux, I noticed an awful acidic smell from her mouth, her crying was becoming inconsolable.

I spoke to my GP again and pleaded for some reflux medicine. She prescribed omeprazole. Currently 2 days in with the new medicine and I have noticed a difference already. Have been given a follow up appointment with a paediatrician and nutritionist. My advice would be stick to your guns, you know your child best and keep fighting until you’re given something that works for your baby!

Hi @DavFow so sorry for the delay in replying I didn't see that anyone had replied. Since my last message he's been back on carobel and settled with it and it's keeping his feeds down but between feeds he's constantly bringing up acid in his throat and either it's coming out or he's swallowing it back down but it's clear it doesn't taste nice to him. We also found out he had a tongue tie and there been cut but hasn't helped with this at all. I'm wanting to request omeprazole, I'm going to ring tomorrow as it's starting to affect my mental health too. I'm exhausted from constantly worrying he's going to choak on his reflux. How it your LO going with the omeprazole and how do you give him it?

@Amyhal13 shes so much better! She has the dissolvable tablets which aren’t ideal but the doctor won’t prescribe the liquid as it’s £130 and so hard to get. It’s tricky to give to her but she’s taking it better now through the syringe. I give it a little at a time into the inside her cheek and massage her throat a little. Her reflux is so much better but she can only manage 70ml per feed before it kicks off again.

Hope your little one is ok, let me know how it goes.
